Skiing can be exhausting for the beginner and the more advanced. Especially when getting into a new season or starting lessons for the first time if you want to enjoy skiing and avoid injury you need to spent some time getting into shape.
Learning to ski you will start to use muscles that you probably have never used before. Failure to get toned up can lead to serious injury or fatigue that will spoil your skiing experience.
Not only do you need good muscle tone to protect your joints such as knees, hips and spine but you need to have good aerobic fitness to deal with the physical exertion. This is especially true if you are just starting out as you may find yourself having to haul yourself back onto you skis more times that your would wish for.
So regular trips to the gym or other activities such as running or cycling can help build up your strength and endurance. Simple stretching exercises will also increase your flexibility and stop you over extending muscles and joints that can lead to debilitating injuries. Core muscles need to be strong to keep you upright. Leg muscles need to be toned to stop fatigue and joint injury.
Doing even the minimum will help you make better progress and enjoy your skiing that much more.
